How do I claim on the tenancy deposit?

Landlords can claim on the tenancy deposit before returning it to the tenant.  Landlords may want to do this if the tenant has caused damage to the property, not left it in a clean or fit state, or hasn’t paid their rent.

For letting plans

When your tenancy is ending, your tenancy manager will ask whether you would like to return the deposit in full or make a claim with deductions.

If you make a claim, it will be submitted to your tenancy deposit scheme (Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) in England or Wales or SafeDeposits in Scotland). They will contact you regarding your deposit dispute.

Using your own deposit scheme

If you are not on a lettingaproperty.com letting plan, you must make your own deposit registration arrangements and contact that scheme directly to raise a deposit dispute.
