Do I need to inform my tenant of maintenance visits?

Yes, landlords should inform tenants before visiting the property. They should give at least 24 hours’ written notice before any visits to the property. This includes visits from contractors, or from the landlord themselves.
Tenants are legally entitled to quiet enjoyment of their property and are not obligated to accept unannounced visitors. The only exception to this is an emergency, such as a flood, fire, or gas leak. Landlords can give notice of property visits through the Message Centre.
