Where is the tenancy deposit stored?

Tenancy deposits under a paid plan (BasicEssential or Complete) in England and Wales are registered and stored with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS), or Safe Deposits Scotland for Scottish properties. All tenancy deposits must be registered with a government-approved tenancy deposit scheme. In England and Wales, these are:
  • Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS)
  • Deposit Protection Service (DPS)
  • MyDeposits
In Scotland, these are:
  • Letting Protection Service Scotland
  • Safe Deposits Scotland
  • my|deposits Scotland
If a landlord is joining a paid plan and their tenancy deposit is already registered, our team will make arrangements for the deposit to be released and moved to the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS). For Scottish tenancies, deposits taken on a paid plan will be stored with Safe Deposits Scotland.
